A Life Well Lived – new single from Daryl Mosley

Posted on January 24, 2023 by Azlyrics

Daryl Mosley has a new single this week, the title track of his upcoming album, A Life Well Lived.

The veteran singer and songwriter has found a home in bluegrass music since the 1980s, when he toured as a member of New Tradition. He also played for several years with Tim Graves in The Farm Hands.

The single one that Mosley co-wrote with Rick Lang, which he tells us was inspired by an image he saw online.

“The idea came from a meme I saw online that encouraged you to take advice from old men slicing apples and eating them ‘right off of the blade.’ I have watched older men do that my entire life and I loved the imagery.

Rick and I talked about some of the sage advice we had received over the years and was able to get a lot of those things into the song. The song really is about focusing on what really matters in life and leaving a legacy to be proud of.”

A Life Well Lived will be available on January 25 from popular download and streaming services online.

An Old Fashioned Christmas video from Daryl Mosley

Posted on December 23, 2022 by Azlyrics

Pinecastle Records has released a performance music video for Daryl Mosley’s new Christmas song this season.

It’s one he wrote with Rick Lang, An Old Fashioned Christmas, very much in keeping with Mosley’s penchant for nostalgia about the old days and ways. Like so many things we remember from our youth, Christmas time is never as magical and exciting as it was when we were children, now that the responsibility for making it all happen falls on our shoulders. It can only be that way through the eyes of a child.

As Daryl told us last month when the track first released…

“One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the nostalgic aspect of it all. Many of us look forward every year to hearing those classic songs, exchanging gifts, and honoring family traditions.

This song is a celebration of all of those things. We tried to capture those warm and fuzzy, Norman Rockwell kind of emotions that Christmas brings about.”

An Old Fashioned Christmas is available now from popular download and streaming services online. Radio programmers will find the track, along with all of Pinecastle’s 2022 Christmas bluegrass offerings, at AirPlay Direct.

An Old Fashioned Christmas from Daryl Mosley

Posted on November 30, 2022 by Azlyrics

Daryl Mosley is the latest to bring new Christmas music to the 2022 season for Pinecastle Records.

It’s one the former member of The Farm Hands and New Tradition wrote with his friend, Rick Lang, called An Old Fashioned Christmas.

For Mosley, there are some things he hopes will never change about this time of year.

Daryl takes the song at a slow, three quarter time tempo, ballad style, with its message of nostalgia and memories from Christmases past.

Video Premiere: Bringing Simple Back from Daryl Mosley

Posted on May 10, 2022 by Azlyrics

Pinecastle Records has produced a music video for another of the songs on Daryl Mosley’s current project, Small Town Dreamer.

The song is one called Bringing Simple Back, and if you’ve heard any of the other music from this album, you may already have an inkling of what it’s about. As the project title suggests, Mosley grew up in the tiny community of Waverly, TN (population 4100), before eventually moving to Nashville to pursue his musical career. Throughout the record he shares lessons and wisdom from living far from the city lights, where there is space between neighbors, yet far more care for one another.

Daryl tells us that the video shoot itself put him in the spirit the song was written to enkindle.

“The song sprang from a conversation co-writer Rick Lang and I had about the desire to downsize and simplify our lives. Shooting the video in such a picturesque location really captured that sentiment. You see the mountains and the trees in the video and can almost feel the calm, which is the whole message of the song. I’m really proud of the finished product.”

Mosley is on bass and lead vocal, supported by Danny Roberts on mandolin, Tony Wray on guitar, Aaron McDaris on banjo, and Adam Haynes on fiddle. Harmony vocals came from Jaelee Roberts and Jeanette Williams.

Have a look/listen…

Bringing Simple Back and the full Small Town Dreamer album are available wherever you stream or download music online. Audio CDs and vinyl copies can be ordered directly from the artist.

Radio programmers can get the music via AirPlay Direct.

Transistor Radio video from Daryl Mosley

Posted on September 18, 2021 by Azlyrics

Pinecastle Records has announced November 5 as the release date for their new album with Daryl Mosley, Small Town Dreamer. The title is more than just a reference to one of the songs, it perfectly describes the entire project, full of original Mosley compositions about his growing up in the little town of Waverly, TN, and the humble and old time values he learned from the people who lived there.

At the same time as the announcement, Pinecastle has produced a music video for the opening track, Transistor Radio, one Daryl wrote with Rick Lang about those little handheld radios many of us recall from our childhood. The lyrics are full of images that will resonate with listeners of a certain age, long before all the music ever recorded could be carried around in your pocket.

Mosley tells us that his own memories are just the same.

“I grew up in the days before cable television. Oftentimes, my most direct connection to the outside world was a little portable radio. Late at night, I was able to pick up baseball games from St Louis, country music from Nashville, blues from Memphis, and much more. Rick Lang, who I co-wrote the song with had a similar experience growing up. Once we started talking about it, this song almost wrote itself. It’s one of my very favorites of the songs Rick and I have written together.”

The single for Transistor Radio is available now from popular download and streaming sites. Pre-saves for the Small Town Dreamer project are also enabled online.

Daryl Mosley on the flooding in middle Tennessee

Posted on August 30, 2021 by Azlyrics

Most of the US is focused right now on hurricane devastation in Louisiana, and rightly so, but there have been other incidents of flooding that have befallen people in other parts of the country of late as well. Areas surrounding Nashville and parts of middle Tennessee saw torrential rainfall the weekend before last which has affected a number of folks in our bluegrass community.

Noted singer and songwriter Daryl Mosley is one such who, while he was spared the direct results of the flooding, has seen great loss in Humphreys County, where his hometown of Waverly is located. Mosley is the Director of the local Chamber of Commerce there, the town about which so many of his songs have been written. He asked us to alert everyone to a fundraiser being hosted on Facebook for the many people there whose homes were washed away.

Daryl offers a brief rundown of the remarkably high rainfall they experienced on August 21.

“Trace Creek runs parallel with Main Street/Highway 70 in Waverly. We saw something like 17 inches of rain there early Saturday morning, which is about 25% of our annual rainfall. When the water finally left the banks, it was moving so fast and got so deep so quickly that it was hard for anyone to react. My mother made it across the street to my sister’s house, and they went next door to a neighbor who had a second story. They made it there with about five minutes to spare. We are blessed that they are safe although their homes were completely destroyed. There are a lot of other people who were not so fortunate.

As of today we have about 22 people confirmed dead, and still a dozen or so more unaccounted for. That number would have been much worse had it not been for locals in their fishing boats and jet skis who risked their own lives to help. They are being called the ‘Redneck Navy,’ and these guys saved dozens of people from the water before it was too late. Roughly 120 homes were completely destroyed, deemed unliveable, or simply gone. The aftermath is almost hurricane-like with the damage, the mud, and the destruction.

We’ve had a wonderful outpouring of volunteers to help look for those missing and to help with the cleanup and salvage, but there’s going to be such a need long-term both in manpower and financially.

There is a fund set up to help because so many of these people had no flood insurance.”

The relief fund Daryl mentions is the Humphreys County Flood Relief Fund, to be administered by United Way of Humphreys County, TN. Donations can be made on Facebook, and Facebook pays the fees associated with collecting contributions so all funds raised can go straight to those in need. They hope to collect $300,000 they can dispense, and are about 2/3 of the way there.

All donations will be gratefully received.

Transistor Radio drops for Daryl Mosley

Posted on July 14, 2021 by Azlyrics

Bluegrass singer and songwriter Daryl Mosley has had success with s number of songs the past year, with multiple songs from his Secret of Life album obtaining radio play. Now Pinecastle Records has a debut single from his next project, Small Town Dreamer, expected in the fall.

For his track, Daryl collaborated with another well-known writer in the bluegrass community for Transistor Radio, a song with an immediate appeal to folks who remember holding those small portable receivers up to their ears to catch faraway signals.

Mosley says the concept grabbed him right away.

“Grammy-nominated songwriter Rick Lang was my co-writer on the track. He came to me with the idea because a transistor radio is how he first heard popular music. I grew up lying awake at night with a portable radio listening to baseball games from St. Louis, and music from Memphis and Nashville, so I related to it immediately. Rick and I often pitch songs to other artists, but as soon as we finished writing this one, I knew that I had to record it. I was just so connected to the song.”

Transistor Radio is available now wherever you stream or download music online. Radio programmers will find the track at AirPlay Direct.

In A Country Town drops for Daryl Mosley

Posted on November 18, 2020 by Azlyrics

Pinecastle Records has released a third single from Daryl Mosley’s debut solo bluegrass project, The Secret of Life, highlighting both his powerful songs and spirited vocals.

This time it’s a song called In A Country Town, one he wrote about growing up in Waverly, TN, and what life was like for him as a boy. Long time fans of Daryl’s music may recognize this one, as he recorded it back in 2013 with The Farm Hands while still a part of that group.

Mosley says he is especially proud of the track.

“This is one of my very favorite songs from the album. I love that it brings my small town roots front and center but it’s more than just a tribute to where I grew up. In A Country Town is an anthem for anyone who has country and rural living in their heart. It’s a celebration of the simple things in life that made us who we are.”

Daryl is also in the process of putting together a music video for the song, and is asking fans and friends to send in photos of their country town, which he will use in the video.

He made this to invite everyone to participate.

Simply send your photos to Daryl on his Facebook page, but be quick about it. He wants them received by tonight!

The single for In A Country Town is available now wherever you stream or download music online. CDs of the full album can be purchased from Daryl’s web site.

Radio programmers can get the track from AirPlay Direct.

Daryl Mosley reunites with Farm Hands, in his own band

Posted on October 16, 2020 by Azlyrics

Last summer we reported that Daryl Mosley was giving up his gig with The Farm Hands in order to start a career as a band leader and solo artist. Since that time he signed with Pinecastle Records and released his first project with them, The Secret of Life, featuring his clear tenor voice and powerful original songs.

And now he finds himself reunited with three of his former Farm Hands bandmates, but these days they are performing alongside Mosley in his own group. Bennie Boling has just joined him on bass, and with Don Hill on banjo and Keith Tew on guitar, it’s a lot like old times for Daryl.

Also working in the Daryl Mosley Band are Jaelee Roberts on fiddle, and her father, Danny Roberts on mandolin, when his commitments with The Grascals allow. The bonds between the Roberts family go way back as well, with Daryl playing next to Danny in the ’90s as a member of New Tradition.

On top of that, his booking agent is Danny’s wife, Andrea, who represents him for live shows through her Andrea Roberts Agency.

Mosley says it just feels right being back together with old friends.

“This is a unique band for me in that I’ve kind of come full circle. On one end of the stage is Danny Roberts and his daughter, Jaelee. Danny and I have been friends and making music for over 30 years. On the other side of the stage is Keith and Don and Bennie, whom I worked with so much with the Farm Hands. It’s comfortable and fun and musically solid and strong. I could not ask for a better group of people to tour with.”

They had their first chance back on stage this past weekend in Alabama, where the Bluegrass Preservation YouTube channel captured them doing the title cut from Daryl’s album.

You can learn more about Daryl by visiting his web site.
